I am an Amsterdam-based artist and furniture maker, a woodworker. I try to combine the best of art, craft and engineering. My art projects and my furniture pieces extend across the broad fields of sculpture and design; my works can be delicate or elegant, or robust and monumental, conceptual, aesthetic or raw functionality. I like humor, and I want to be serious.
I cherish my diversity, I am versatile. Yet I have a specific style and authenticity. I think my skills, craftsmanship and experience allow me to make complex things look deceptively simple and natural. The latter: making things look natural, is my ambition. The natural is also my inspiration. For me, the natural is what grows and evolves and can continue to exist without artificial interference. It is not without reason that wood is my favorite material. Sustainability is the primary value, let's stop producing things that are not made to survive ourselves.
If you can't find me in my studio, I'm fishing on the beach at night, walking through the woods or contemplating in my library of trees. Although I love the desolate, I also need company; souls to help me refine thoughts and ideas, mine or yours:
In commissioned furniture projects I use a very personal approach to negotiate between aesthetics and functionality, sustainability and budget.
I use a similar approach with art productions. I enjoy delving into artistic concepts or thoughts to help realize installations and exhibitions.
