Custom furniture/design,
Functional art, like furniture making, is engineering. Sometimes, but not necessarily a straightforward process. I believe interesting engineering often deals with settling of conflicting interests: a negotiation between ideas and reality.
For my own inner conflicts I must refer you to the biography or art portfolio pages, but if you are looking for conflicts of interest between your ideas an my reality, or your reality and my ideas this is he page to be.
My design approach is personal. Personal in a sense that I always try to find ways to include, however brutal or subtle, my own artistic hand. But also personal because it is about my commissioners, their personal spaces and their lives (I like to maintain the idea that sturdy woodwork lasts at least one lifecycle).
In practice this requires that we talk about your taste, wishes and ideas, that I visit your home and that I will try to get to know you a little. Quickly after I sent you a concept, possibly conflicting, which I ask you to analyse and comment.
With those comments I develop the first concept, or we negotiate, however you want it, towards a second more personal concept. We will touch many functionalities, e.g; ergonomics and durability, aesthetics and soul of a product. Together we will work towards a personal and realistic piece of furniture.
The process can take weeks or months, but very possible an hour or two. I work for anyone and for any budgets (although we might need to negotiate). As long as I can work with sustainable materials (read: wood).
