Wall mounted installation (functional: shelves)
I have been making spatial cabinets (formerly known as Tijgerhout) for special interiors for almost 15 years. The designs are aimed at making maximum functional use of the available wall space, so that your space gets a beautiful, characteristic look.
All designs, however minimal or bombastic, are created with a design strategy based on mathematical operations* of the golden ratio. A formula used extensively in classical (and contemporary) architecture. The ratio, which is also called 'extreme and average ratio' or 'divine ratio', is so common in the architecture of a city like Amsterdam that every resident is unconsciously accustomed to it in one way or another.
This familiarity allows me to be highly creative and create complex and even chaotic designs that are seemingly calm and natural. It makes it possible to accommodate many different functionalities in a single aesthetic piece of furniture.
* loosely based on: Although I start with a strict interpretation, that is needed to match existing characteristics of a space, I playfully disturb the system to meet functional requests or to create something surprising or more interesting. The exception proves the rule after all.
**Some people believe that the golden ratio results from a mystical, natural law that dictates the growth of all organisms and stochastic processes, hence: 'divine proportion'. I see it as a mathematical construction that is applicable to many, even the most natural structures. For me, the relationship is like a language: it can describe everything (just like other languages), but I can also write with it.
