‘Bint’ refers to the book of the Dutch author F.Bordewijk (published 1934). Some say the book is about discipline and punishment in an outdated schooling system, for me it is about what happens under the table.
‘Bint’ also refers to wooden truss, specially the anchor-beam-truss, a way of contructing farmhouses that in theory could be dissassembled.
In designing a table, functionality and specially hygiene often force us towards plain and smooth table tops. If a more sculptural element is to be added, it must be ‘under the table’.
Different versions of the table were made in bamboo, in (reclaimed) hardwood and in Elm.
